Step-by-step instructions
- Open the bag and pour the alginate into a hermetically-sealed container.
- Shake 2 or 3 times to spread powder and then dose: use the dosing measuring spoon to pour out the alginate without compressing the powder.
- Level and remove excess alginate using the flat part of the spatula and then pour into a rubber mixing bowl.
- Repeat until the desired quantity is obtained.
- For each spoon of powder (9g), pour 1/3 of the measuring cup of water (18 ml). E.g. for two doses of powder (18 g) required for a medium upper impression tray, pour 2/3 of the measuring cup of water (36 ml).
- Close the container and store between 5°C/41°F and 27°C/80°F.
- Add water to powder to begin mixing, in accordance with recommended times listed in the table, place material onto the impression tray and insert into oral cavity before end of working time.
- Wait for material to harden, follow recommendations for length of time in oral cavity.
- Once the impression has been removed from the patient’s mouth, ask them to rinse their mouth with warm water.
- Inspect the patient’s mouth to ensure there are no remaining traces of alginate.
- For homogeneous mixing, which reduces the number of air bubbles, a mechanical or automatic mixer may be used, in accordance with instructions and times supplied by the producer.

Elastomeric materials offer greater accuracy and dimensional stability, which are critical for the precise fit required in FPD cases.
