Glass Ionomer Cement is a dental material widely used for various applications in dentistry. It typically consists of a powdered component, which includes glass particles and various metal oxides, and a liquid component, usually an aqueous solution of polyacrylic acid. When mixed, these components form a cement that adheres well to tooth structures. GIC is valued for its unique properties, including fluoride release, adhesion to tooth tissues, biocompatibility, and radiopacity. It is commonly used for tasks such as filling cavities, cementing crowns and bridges and attaching orthodontic brackets. The material sets through an acid-base reaction and bonds chemically with the tooth structure.
