Phyx Orthodontic Elastic chains are made of an elastic material and consist of many connected rings. They're added to braces to apply more force to an area of mouth.
Orthodontists use power chain braces to close spaces between teeth during orthodontic treatment. They prefer to use them as a solution for moving teeth quickly, and for larger gaps where a tooth might be missing, perhaps due to extraction. Power chain braces are typically used toward the end of treatment.
Elastic chain is connected to a string of ligatures. The elastic materials focus on holding the archwire to the individual brackets. The continuous elastic memory extends the chain by five times.
Types of power chains for braces :
- Closed : This chain type fixes at every bracket. Because no spaces exist between the rings. Each ring is immediately connected to the next ring in the power chain.
- Short : Each ring in this type of power chain is segregated by a minor distance. A short chain attaches to an alternate bracket.
- Long : This chain has rings separated by very long distances connected to every third bracket.

Direction to use
- Preparation: Ensure hands are clean and sterile before handling the elastic chain. Use gloves to maintain hygiene during application.
- Placement: Remove the elastic chain from its packaging. The chain typically comes in a continuous loop, or individual links may be separated based on the needed length.
- Attachment to Brackets: Place the elastic chain over the orthodontic brackets or hooks that are already in place on the patient's braces. Ensure that the chain is correctly positioned to exert gentle and consistent pressure on the teeth.
- Adjusting the Tension: Depending on the treatment plan, you may need to adjust the tension of the elastic chain by either adding or removing links. For continuous chains, ensure they fit snugly but not too tight.
- Ensure Proper Fit: Make sure the elastic chain is securely attached to all necessary brackets or hooks without causing excessive discomfort to the patient. The chain should be applied in a way that allows for the desired movement of the teeth.
- Monitoring: Instruct the patient to wear the elastic chain as prescribed, typically for 24 hours or as directed by the orthodontist. Regular follow-up visits may be required to check the progress and replace or adjust the chain if needed.
- Removal and Replacement: The elastic chain should be replaced regularly, as directed by the orthodontist, to maintain optimal tension. If the chain becomes loose or breaks, replace it promptly.
- Disposal: Dispose of used elastic chains properly, following infection control guidelines.
