• Fabricate the Bite Wax Rims: The bite wax rims are typically made by shaping and contouring baseplate wax or modeling compound onto the denture base. This creates the occluding surfaces for bite registration.
• Adjust the Dimensions: Ensure the bite wax rims have the proper dimensions - around 22mm anterior height for the maxillary rim and 18mm for the mandibular rim. The posterior heights should be about 2/3 of the retromolar pad area.
• Contour the Rims: Shape the bite wax rims to provide adequate lip and cheek support, as well as labial and buccal fullness. This allows the facial muscles to function normally during bite registration.
• Smooth the Surfaces: The surfaces of the bite wax rims should be smooth and rounded for patient comfort.
• Record the Bite: With the patient in a relaxed position, use the prepared bite wax rims to record the maxillomandibular relationship, including centric relation.
• Allow the Wax to Set: Let the bite registration wax set either by water or at room temperature (around 27°C).
• Maintain Accuracy: The dimensionally stable bite wax helps maintain the accuracy of the occlusal records during dental procedures.
