Preparation:
Wash your hands thoroughly and wear disposable gloves.
Ensure the retractor is clean and sterilized if reusable, or use a new, sterile retractor if it is a single-use model.
Patient Preparation:
Explain the procedure to the patient to alleviate any anxiety.
Position the patient comfortably in the dental chair with appropriate head support.
Inserting the Retractor:
Ask the patient to open their mouth wide.
Hold the retractor by the handles.
Gently insert the retractor into the mouth, positioning the wings between the cheeks and teeth.
Ensure the retractor is seated comfortably, with the wings resting against the inside of the cheeks.
Adjusting the Retractor:
Ensure the retractor provides a clear view and access to the teeth and gums.
Adjust the position slightly if necessary to maximize comfort and visibility.
During the Procedure:
Periodically check the patient’s comfort.
Ensure the retractor stays in place and continues to provide clear access.
Removing the Retractor:
Upon completing the procedure, ask the patient to relax their mouth.
Gently and slowly remove the retractor from the patient’s mouth, being careful not to cause any discomfort or injury.
