Types

Dentsply SDR Flowable Bulk Filling Material is a one-component, fluoride-containing, visible light cured, radiopaque resin composite restorative material. It is designed to be used as a base in class I and II restorations. SDR material has to handle characteristics typical of a “flowable” composite but can be placed in 4 mm increments with minimal polymerization stress. SDR™ material has a self-leveling feature that allows intimate adaptation to the prepared cavity walls. Available in one universal shade, it is designed to be overlayed with a methacrylate based universal/posterior composite for replacing missing occlusal/facial enamel.

INDICATIONS

SDR material direct restorative:

  • Base in cavity class I & II direct restorations
  • Liner under direct restorative materials – Class II box liner

Contraindications SDR material is contraindicated for:

  • Use with patients who have a history of severe allergic reactions to methacrylate resins.

Advantages

  •  Advanced Chemistry and amazing Procedures
  •  Bulk Fill base in Class I and II restorations
  •  4mm depth of cure
  •  Self Leveling Handling
  •  Up to 60% less stress than conventional flowable
  •  Radiopaque
  •  Single component, fluoride containing, visible light cured

Features

  • Universal Shade: The material is available in one universal shade, eliminating the need for shade selection and simplifying the restorative process.
  • Visible Light Cured: SDR material is cured using visible light, allowing for precise control over the curing process. This ensures thorough polymerization and reliable restoration hardness.
  • Enhanced Adaptation: The self-leveling characteristic of SDR material facilitates intimate adaptation to the prepared cavity walls, enhancing the marginal integrity and reducing the risk of microleakage.
  • Easy Overlay: SDR material is designed to be overlaid with a methacrylate-based universal or posterior composite for replacing missing occlusal or facial enamel. This allows for seamless integration of the restorative materials and optimal esthetic outcomes.
  • High Radiopacity: The material's radiopacity is high, which aids in accurate diagnosis and assessment of the restoration of dental radiographs.
  • Compatible with Direct Restorations: SDR material can be used as a base in Class I and II direct restorations, providing a stable foundation for the placement of additional composite materials.
  • Liner Application: SDR material can also be used as a liner under direct restorative materials, particularly as a Class II box liner. This further supports the restoration and helps protect the tooth structure.
  • Reduced Treatment Time: The ability to place SDR material in larger increments (up to 4mm) and its self-leveling properties allow for faster and more efficient restorative procedures, reducing treatment time for both the dentist and the patient.

Direction to use

  • Cavity Preparation: Prepare the class I or class II cavity according to standard protocols, ensuring proper removal of carious or damaged tooth structure. Clean and dry the prepared cavity.
  • Placement of SDR Material: Dispense the SDR material directly into the prepared cavity or onto a mixing pad. Use a suitable placement instrument to introduce the material into the cavity. The material has self-leveling properties, so ensure it adequately covers the floor and walls of the cavity.
  • Increment Thickness: SDR material can be placed in increments of up to 4mm. Ensure each increment is adequately adapted and contoured before placing the next increment.
  • Light Curing:  Ensure all areas of the material receive adequate light exposure for proper polymerization.
  • Finishing and Polishing: After complete curing of the SDR material, finish and polish the restoration as necessary to achieve the desired anatomical contour and smooth surface.
  • Overlay with Universal/Posterior Composite: If desired, overlay the SDR material with a methacrylate-based universal or posterior composite to replace missing occlusal or facial enamel. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for the overlay material.
  • Final Check and Adjustments: Verify occlusion, proximal contacts, and overall restoration integrity. Make any necessary adjustments or adjustments as required.

Product Related Questions

Question : How many grams are in one capsule of Dentsply SDR Plus Flowable Bulk Filling Material?
Answer:
Each capsule of Dentsply SDR Plus Flowable Bulk Filling Material contains 0.5 grams of material. This compact quantity is designed for efficient use in dental restorative procedures, ensuring precision and convenience during application.

Question : Can SDR material be used in anterior restorations?
Answer:
SDR material is primarily indicated for use in class I and II restorations. It is not typically recommended for anterior restorations where esthetics may be a primary concern.

Question : Is SDR material suitable for use in pediatric dentistry?
Answer:
While SDR material can be used in pediatric dentistry, it is important to consider the child's ability to cooperate during the placement and curing process. The material's properties, such as self-leveling and ease of placement, can be beneficial in pediatric cases.

Question : Can SDR material be used in patients with allergies to methacrylate resins?
Answer:
No, SDR material is contraindicated for use in patients with a history of severe allergic reactions to methacrylate resins. It is important to consider the patient's medical history and potential allergies before selecting any dental material.

Question : Can SDR material be used for deep cavities or as a liner for deep restorations?
Answer:
SDR material can be used as a liner under direct restorative materials, specifically as a Class II box liner. However, it is important to follow the manufacturer's instructions and guidelines for its appropriate use in deep cavities or as a liner.

Question : Can SDR material be used as a standalone restorative material without overlaying with a composite?
Answer:
No, SDR material is designed to be used as a base in class I and II restorations and is intended to be overlayed with a methacrylate-based universal or posterior composite for replacing missing occlusal or facial enamel.

Question : How long does it take for SDR material to cure?
Answer:
The curing time of SDR material will depend on the specific dental curing light used. It is essential to follow the recommended curing time and ensure adequate light exposure to achieve proper polymerization.

Question : How long does the SDR restoration typically last?
Answer:
The longevity of any restoration, including those using SDR material, can vary depending on various factors such as oral hygiene, occlusal forces, and individual patient circumstances. Regular follow-up visits and proper maintenance can help monitor and extend the lifespan of the restoration.
