A liquid solution of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) used to chemically soften the root canal dentine and dissolve the smear layer, as well as to increase dentine permeability.
Irrigation of the root canal with 15-17% EDTA solutions to dissolve the smear layer .
17% ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid solution, which is buffered to neutral pH.
It is used to simplify the instrumental treatment of root canals.
EDTA works by reacting with the mineral components of the hard tissues of the tooth.
The chelating agent EDTA softens the tissues, decalcifying the canal walls.
It facilitates the mechanical preparation of the root canal and further removal of the smear layer,
which opens dentin tubules.
INDICATION:-
For Debridement of root canals.
Features
Features
- Removes smear layer from canal walls.
- Leaves the dentinal tubules free of organic matter.
- Aids in mechanical shaping of the canal.

Direction to use
Direction to use
- Preparation: Ensure the root canal is properly accessed and initial mechanical preparation is performed.
- Irrigation: Use a syringe and needle to deliver the EDTA solution into the canal. Ensure that the solution reaches all areas of the canal by using slow and controlled irrigation techniques.
- Duration: Allow the solution to remain in the canal for approximately 1–2 minutes to effectively dissolve the smear layer and soften dentine.
- Rinse: Flush the canal thoroughly with saline or distilled water after using EDTA to remove debris and residual solution.
- Repeat: If necessary, reapply the EDTA solution during the preparation to ensure optimal smear layer removal.
- Final Irrigation: Complete the irrigation protocol with a disinfectant solution such as sodium hypochlorite before proceeding to obturation.
